I called 15 parents and requested they come to our “show up and sign in” parent conference night, held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Not one parent showed. Do I even need to share my frustration or can you all relate?

They’re coming… that time when every teacher scrambles to finish that 10-inch stack of papers piling up on her desk, punch in numbers into the most un-user friendly grading software imaginable, and answer about 100 students who ask “do I owe you anything”? We have to go through so much to become certified. How is it, then, that we are constantly told how to do our jobs? And many times the mandates we’re given are reactive, as opposed to proactive.
